High variance slots will give you mainly small wins and very occassionally a huge win. With these type of slots you need to be patient as you can spin through £50 without getting a bonus round but when you do you have a good chance of a high payout BUT remember you could also come away with not enough to cover the amount spent to get to the bonus round in the first place.
Below are a few which I like to use and I have made £several hundred from these using the exact above strategy but I have also bombed out on all as well.
Great Blue – Playtech
Great Blue is a Playtech powered slot game – the main feature is the Bonus round where you can win up to 33 free spins and/or a 15x multiplier. This is a high variance slot game meaning that wins are infrequent but when they come, they can be huge! A few weeks ago I hit a £900+ bonus and have hit £100+ many times.
Great Blue is a 5 reel 25 payline video slot game and features an undersea theme based on a killer whale (Great Blue). This game is known for being a high variance game so tread carefully – you can play from as little as 25p a spin to as much as £125 a spin.
Dead or Alive – Net Entertainment
Dead or Alive is another one of my favourites and it also has the added attraction of hitting a big win.
It has a Wild West theme and features the most prolific outlaws of all time including Billy the Kid and Jesse James. Playable from 9p a spin (use for 1 x wagering with Casumo), the Free Spins feature gives you 12 free spins with a 2x multiplier. You can get a cash prize up to 2,500 times your stake before you start! Anyway, look out for the Wanted Poster wild as this becomes sticking in the feature. Sticky wilds also award extra free spins with up to 29 available.
Immortal Romance – Microgaming
Immortal Romance is another great choice and can be played from 30p a spin.
It has a Wild Desire feature which can randomly show up to change 5 reels into wild reels, however, the appeal is The Chamber of Spins feature which has 4 levels – each level is represented by 1 of the characters. Each character feature gives you free spins but with varying mini-features within them. I would recommend sticking to the 1st (Michael) as it is the most effective and you get 20 free spins with Rolling Reels. When you have a winning spin, the multiplier value increases up to 5x. You will either love or hate the sound track, depending on how long you play the game 🙂
Black Knight II – WMS Gaming
This sequel is extremely high variance and now features an extra 10 paylines with an extra row of symbols. This is significant in the Free Spins feature where you can win really big. You will get 7 free spins and the Black Knight can appear on either of the 3 middle reels to expand to a wild reel and remain sticky throughout the feature. If you get 2 or 3 early on, expect a huge payout. In total, you can technically get 12 sticky wilds rather than the 9 in its predecessor.
Lord of the Ocean – Novomatic
Lord of the Ocean is a Novomatic-powered slot which is well-known for being high variance. Playable from just 10p a spin, it’s based on Neptune (the Lord of the Ocean).
It has a Free Spins bonus feature where you begin with 10 free spins and a 2x multiplier. You can win additional free spins but what makes this game so good is that 1 symbol is chosen randomly to become the special expanding symbol. When it appears, it will cover all 3 positions of that reel – this can occur on all 5 reels which can lead to massive wins.
300 Shields – NextGen Gaming
300 Shields can be played from just 25p a spin. It has a Spartan theme and is a very high variance slot.
It has a Battle Feature Free Games bonus game where you get 5 free spins with all wins doubled. Shields reward you with more additional free spins and increase the multiplier. If you collect 12 or more shields, you will get a 4th series of 5 free spins with Warrior wins subject to a huge 300x multiplier.
Pharaoh’s Fortune – IGT
A Las Vegas favourite, it plays The Bangles’ Walk Like An Egyptian in the background and is playable from 10p a spin but you can win up to 2,500 times your stake.
There’s a Pharaoh’s Fortune Bonus feature where you get 3 free spins and a 1x multiplier and there’s 20 extra pay lines. You get to pick from 30 unturned stones to reward you with more free spins and multiplier +1 stones. You can get up to 30 free spins with a 6x multiplier before you start with up to 999 free spins available.
Where’s The Gold – Aristocrat
Based on lucky miners who go in search for gold, you can play from 50p a spin.
You have the Where’s The Gold feature where you choose a character to dig for gold – this determines how many free spins you will get (depending on how many nuggets are found). It will also determine how many extra wild symbols you get; you will normally get 2 which can really boost your winning potential.
